The Power of starting small     

INTRODUCTION

The choice of my topic today, though for the general good of all, may be more specific to our graduating students here today. I want to begin by thanking God for his unending love and mercy over of you these past years as students. Now that one face of your life is fading off another is being opened. Zachariah 4:8-10; Matthew 13:31 & 32; Luke 19:12-28, Job 8:7

THE NEW BEGINNING

Everything in life has a beginning, which often signifies the smallest part of its development process. As you plan to start new ideals in all facets of life I will like to remind you of the power of beginning from a humbly or perhaps the smallest point. The power in small things can be huge. Believe me everything big was once small. In fact only small things can grow. A number of Bible illustrations exist to explain this concept. God only created Adam and then Eve (Genesis 1:27), but today the world’s population is estimated at over 7.048 Billion people. From small things come great things surely!

My message today is to simply steer your faith and commitment to begin that idea today. Whatever, it is you have been dreaming of, make effort to start now.  Waiting till when you put all details together may kill it. Zachariah 4:10a questions “ For who has despised the day of small things? “ we are warned against looking down on our little things in this passage.

Again, consider the parable of our Lord on the Mustard seed in Matthew 13: 31 & 32 “Another parable He put forth to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field, ³² which indeed is the least of all the seeds; but when it is grown it is greater than the herbs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches.”

The entire story explains the fact that from small seed can grow a huge tree and eventually a forest.

LIFE APPLICATION

I know we all have big dreams of where we want to work, who we want to marry and even the type of car and house we will eventually buy. Dreams are good and in fact ideal for real life’s pursuit. However, I will advice you start with the little time, money, talent or that small job and grow it into your real dream. The Lord Jesus in another parable of the talents explains how a master’s dealings with one of his servants negated this rule of small beginning. This servant came to his master with only the talent his master had originally entrusted to him. He did not increase his master’s money, but offered a feeble excuse for his conduct. He told his master that he was a harsh and cruel man, a man who was over demanding, and expected gain where he had not labour. He contended that this is why he was afraid to take a risk with any kind of investment. And so he simply hid the money, and now he returned it, without any gain. The master rebuked this slave for being evil and lazy. He took his talent from him, gave it to the one who earned ten, and cast this fellow into outer darkness, where there was weeping and gnashing of teeth (Luke 19:12-28). Increase in life comes with managing small efforts.

CONCLUSION

The crux of my message is simple-nothing is too small to start with. Just get started!
